ASG: Advancing Sewing as an Art and Life Skill
Welcome to the Akron/Canton chapter of the American Sewing Guild, a national non-profit volunteer organization of sewing enthusiasts. Founded in 1978, The American Sewing Guild has grown to over 18,00 members in 134 chapters across the country. ASG’s purpose is to provide information, education, and programs for members and the community, advancing sewing as an art and life skill. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in sewing.
Our chapters serves sewers in Summit, Stark, Wayne and Medina counties in northeastern Ohio. Whether you are a long-time sewer, are new to sewing, or getting back into sewing after a hiatus, our chapter has something for everyone. Our chapter include those who are interested in fashion and garment sewing, quilting, home decor, doll clothes, crafts and machine embroidery. Local Neighborhood Groups (NGs) and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) meet monthly to learn new sewing skills, to network with others who sew, and to participate in chapter community service projects.
If you want to know more, please take a few moments to explore our website and read about our activities and events. We have groups in Fairlawn, Tallmadge, Wadsworth and Ellet, plus two special interest groups, Gals & Dolls and Garment Gals.
We believe that sewing is a rewarding and creative activity. Come learn new skills and make new friends. We would love to meet you!
