Akron/Canton Chapter of the American Sewing Guild
Welcome to the Akron/Canton chapter of the American Sewing Guild, a national non-profit volunteer organization of home sewing enthusiasts. Founded in 1978, the American Sewing Guild has grown to over 18,000 members in 134 chapters across the country. ASG’s purpose is to provide information, education, and programs for members and the community, advancing sewing as an art and life skill. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in sewing.
Our chapter serves sewers in Summit, Stark, Portage, Wayne, and Medina counties in northeastern Ohio. Whether you are new to sewing, a "junior" member, or want to get back into sewing after a 30 year hiatus, or are a long time sewer, the Akron/Canton chapter has something for everyone.
Neighborhood Groups include those interested in fashion and garment sewing, quilting, home décor, doll clothes and doll making, crafts, and machine embroidery. Local meetings meet monthly to learn new sewing skills, to network with others who share an interest in sewing, and to participate in community service projects.
If you use a needle and want to learn more, please take a few moments to explore our website and read about the activities and the events. You are invited to attend two Neighborhood and/or Special Interest Group meetings as a guest before joining. Currently, we have groups in Fairlawn, Tallmadge, Wadsworth, and Ellet, plus two special interest groups, Sewing for 18" Dolls and Garment Gals. Come visit and experience the fun and camaraderie of connecting with other sewers.
We believe sewing is a rewarding and creative activity. Come learn new skills, and make new friends with whom to share your sewing successes and challenges. We would love to meet you.
